A compact, lightweight submachine gun chambered in 4.6 mm x 30, developed as a personal defence weapon for use in confined spaces. The 4.6 x 30 round is designed to penetrate body armour with steel-core ammunition while limiting overpenetration.

    Close Combat

    Heckler & Koch describes the MP7 as a compact, lightweight weapon for close range and as the close-combat weapon of special forces.

    Armour Penetration

    The 4.6 mm x 30 NATO round has a smaller cross-section than 9 mm x 19, which lets it penetrate modern body armour when using steel-core ammunition.

    The bullet's rear centre of gravity makes it roll over in the target and release most of its energy there, reducing the risk to uninvolved third parties.
